What are DOSHAS ?

Vata, Pitta and Kapha are the three vital principles of doshas, which together regulate and control the catabolic and anabolic metabolism. The main function of the three doshas is to carry the byproduct of digested foods throughout the body, which helps in growth & development of the body tissues. Any malfunction in these doshas causes disease or ailment.

VATA
Akasha (space) + Vayu (air)
The doshas derive from the Five Elements and their related properties. Vata is composed of Space and Air, Pitta is composed of Fire and Water, and Kapha is composed of Earth and Water. The qualities of Vata are dry, rough, light, cold, subtle, and mobile. Vata is located everywhere in the body but, the main locations of Vata are the colon, thighs, bones, joints, ears, skin, brain, and nerve tissues.

Physiologically, Vata is responsible for any type of movement in the body, such as breathing, talking, movements in the muscles and tissues, circulation, assimilation of food, defecation, urination, and menstruation.

These all kind of movements should be controlled and directed in right direction. When these movements are normal and directed well, the condition is known as health. When these movements are misdirected and irregular, the condition will represent the diseases or Vata Rog. Prana, Udana, Samana,Vyana and Apana are the 5 types of Vata Dosha, which have their different positions and functions in the body.
PITTA
Agni (Fire) + Jala (water)
Pitta derives from the elements of Fire and Water. The qualities of Pitta are oily, sharp, hot, light, moving, liquid, and acidic. Same as Vata, Pitta is located everywhere in the body but, the main locations are the small intestine, stomach, liver, spleen, pancreas, blood, eyes, and sweat.

It is responsible for digestion and metabolism in the body that functions through carrier substances such as organic acids, enzymes, and bile. Along with digestion, Pitta also works for the other factors in the body like management of the color and glow of the skin, hormonal system of the body, coloration of the blood (Hemoglobin) and capability of the eyes to watch something.

Physiologically, Pitta provides heat and energy to the body through the breakdown of complex food molecules. It is responsible for all process related to conversion and transformation throughout the mind and body.Psychologically, Pitta is responsible for joy, willpower, anger, courage, jealousy, and mental perception. These all kind of Pitta process should be controlled and directed in right direction. When these process are normal and directed well, the condition is known as health. When these process are misdirected and irregular, the condition will represent the diseases or Pitta Roga. Alochaka Pitta, Bhrajaka Pitta,Sadhaka Pitta, Pachaka Pitta and Ranjaka Pitta are the 5 types of Pitta Dosha, which have their different locations and functions in the body.

KAPHA
Jala (water) + Prithvi (Earth)
Kapha derives from the elements of Earth and Water. The qualities of Kapha are moist, cold, heavy, dull, soft, sticky, and static. As like Vata and Pitta, Kapha is also located everywhere in the body but, the main locations are the chest, throat, lungs, head, lymph, fatty tissue, connective tissue, ligaments, and tendons.

Physiologically, Kapha helps to moistens food, lubricates joints, gives bulk to our tissues, stores energy, and it is related to cool bodily fluids such as water, mucous, and lymph. Psychologically, Kapha is responsible for love, patience, forgiveness, greed, attachment, and mental inertia. These all kind of Kapha process should be controlled and directed in right direction. When these all process are normal and directed well, the condition is known as health. When these all process are misdirected and irregular, the condition will represent the diseases or Kapha Roga.

Tarpaka Kapha, Bodhak Kapha, Kledaka Kapha, Avlambaka Kapha and Sleshaka Kapha are the 5 types of Kapha Dosha, which have their different locations and functions in the body.
